Beckwood Awarded for Press at Lawrence Livermore National Lab

Beckwood Press Co., St. Louis, MO, has been recognized by Bechtel’s Nuclear, Security & Environmental global business unit for outstanding work at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL). The unit’s Supply Chain Recognition Awards honor subcontractors and suppliers who supported Bechtel‘s work in nuclear power, environmental clean-up, defense, and nuclear security and operations projects during 2016.

Prior to installing Beckwood’s Triform model 20-10-10BD deep-draw sheet- hydroforming press, LLNL relied on decades-old equipment to research, develop and make hydroformed parts. Since upgrading to the Triform, LLNL has increased its forming capabilities–it can now form parts from a variety of materials including high-strength alloys, carbon steel, aluminum, stainless steel, precious metals, copper and brass, each with varying thicknesses. This flexibility is instrumental for developing LLNL’s extensive range of parts.

Two Press-Feed Lines for Lear Seating in Mexico

Dallas Industries, Troy, MI, has delivered two feed lines to the Lear Seating facility in Arteaga, Mexico. One, a 36-in.-wide refurbished line, features a DRF-436 cabinet-mounted servo feed, threading table, DPS-3-36-7 powered straightener and a 20,000-lb.-capacity reel with load car. The second is a new 48-in.-wide conventional push/pull feed line featuring a DRF-548 cabinet-mounted servo feed (push feed), threading table, DPS-3-48-7 powered straightener and a 20,000-lb.-capacity reel with load car. The pull feed also has a integrated scrap shear for simple scrap chopping. The powered straightener features Dallas’ Hi-Flight backup-roll assembly for advanced high-strength steel.

Both lines were built on an Allen-Bradley Ethernet-based control architecture and feature SyncLoop and ProfileSelect. SyncLoop controls synchronize the feeder and straightener speeds to enhance the slack loop’s stability and control. ProfileSelect, a feed-control system exclusively available through Dallas Industries. It uses a cam-motion (sinusoidal) profile, a smooth profile resulting in a feed motion that utilizes 100 percent of the press-feed window, reducing stress on the material and on the feed’s mechanical components.
