What is Tooling?
Tooling refers to components used to create production parts. Stamping press tooling may include progressive, transfer, line and other dies and provide for cutting, bending, coining, and drawing operations, or forming of other features on a part. Press tooling also may employ the ability to perform other tasks, such as welding and fastening parts, or tapping holes (see In-Die Operations). Tooling used in fabricating machinery such as press brakes and punching machines, available in many formats to fit many kinds of machines, perform numerous bending, shaping and cutting tasks. Punching machines can be automated to allow for efficient tool storage and job setup.
