Huge Schuler Press the Heart of a Volkswagen Press-Shop Expansion
May 10, 2021Comments
The newly commissioned Volkswagen press-shop expansion at its electric-car manufacturing facility in Zwickau, Germany, stamps the complete outer skin for six models. The €74 million, 8400-sq.-m expansion includes a new Schuler XL-model stamping press, an automatic stacking line, and a high-bay warehouse.
The heart of the expansion is the new Schuler XL press, delivering 6900 tons of force across five stages. Making 10,800 press strokes/day, the press—92 m long by 22 m wide—combines conventional and servo drive technology that provides, say Schuler officials, the advantages of both technologies: high speed along with precision and quality.
