Metal stamping company Stone City Products, Bedford, IN, will be recognized by the Indiana Department of Labor on October 30, as part of the Indiana Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (INSHARP). The program recognizes and rewards small Indiana employers that operate exemplary safety and health management systems. Certification in INSHARP recognizes an employer among its business peers as a model worksite for occupational safety and health. Employers receiving INSHARP certification also receive exemption from programmed IOSHA-compliance inspections for the period in which their certification is valid.

INSHARP participants must maintain worker injury and illness rates below their industry’s average, and develop, implement and maintain a proactive workplace safety and health management system focusing on:

• Management commitment

• Employee involvement

• Worksite analysis

• Hazard prevention and control

• Employee training.

Companies earning INSHARP recognition undergo a comprehensive workplace safety and health consultation that includes a review of all elements of the safety and health program (emergency action plan, hazard communication, etc.); training documentation; and injury and illness logs. The IOSHA team also conducts a facility evaluation and interviews managers and employees.

Stone City Products, which employs more than 100 people, performs metal stamping, sheet metal fabrication, machining, welding and assembly.
