Bobcat Invests $9.3 Million in Automated Tandem Line

Bobcat Company has completed a $9.3-million investment in press technology and automation at its manufacturing facility in Gwinner, ND. The firm expects that the new tandem line will more than double production capabilities, reduce energy consumption, lower noise levels and improve its ability to form complex sheet metal parts.
For the new line, Bobcat partnered with AP&T North America, Inc., which supplied a 2000-ton valveless servo-hydraulic lead press. The automated, closed-looped press is 70 percent more energy efficient than a conventional hydraulic press, say AP&T officials. The press line and automation are smart-controlled via internet-based solutions. Bobcat also partnered with TCR Integrated Stamping Systems, Wisconsin Rapids, WI, to provide the new press-control system as well as magnetic quick-die-change apparatus.
“This unique solution provided the ability to move parts in excess of 200 lb. very quickly over great distances,” says Todd Wenzel, president of TCR.
The Gwinner manufacturing complex covers 780,000 sq. ft., employs approximately 1500 employees, and produces Bobcat loaders and utility work machines.
