Seyi Partners with ABB for Automated Press Systems

Wednesday, March 15, 2017

Stamping-press builder Seyi Machinery has announced that it is partnering with robotics supplier ABB to provide robotic press cells and lines. The two are working strategically to offer automated production solutions and apply Seyi’s Intelligent Stamping Line Control System.

“Through the years, ABB has been an important partner for Seyi in developing automation systems,” says Claire Kuo, Seyi chair and CEO. “With the increasing customer requirements for automation, we have solid faith that win-win outcomes can be expected based on the cooperation between ABB and our company.”

A demonstration cell has been set up at Seyi’s headquarters in Taoyuan, Taiwan, that shows Seyi’s most advanced servo press, the SDG2-400 straight-side crank-servo press, paired with ABB’s six-axis IRB6700 robot with a seventh linear axis, and its SD1-200 solid-frame crank-servo press paired with ABB’s six-axis IRB4600 robot.

Free Wilson Tool Webinar: Create Retainers In-House

Tuesday, March 14, 2017

On April 5 at 1 p.m. CST, Wilson Tool International will offer a 45-min. free webinar on creating custom retainers in-house. The White Bear Lake, MN-based manufacturer of tooling systems for punch presses, press brakes, and punch and die components for the stamping and tableting industries will provide information on how die builders can create or modify custom retainers in-house using Wilson Tool’s HP Accu-Lock retainer inserts. Using the retainer inserts, stampers can eliminate the need for specialized tooling, jigs and fixtures to create a ball-lock holder, according to company officials.

New Executive Director for Auto/Steel Partnership

Monday, March 13, 2017

The Auto/Steel Partnership (A/SP), a 30-year collaboration of auto companies and steelmakers, announced that John K. Catterall, an automotive-engineering veteran in body-structure, chassis and closure applications, has been named executive director. Prior to joining the A/SP, Catterall held the position of global innovation manager for body systems at General Motors Co.

“With the resurgence in the automotive industry, I look forward to growing the A/SP and elevating its importance,” says Catterall. “I’ve spent nearly four decades running advanced development projects with General Motors Co. and other organizations. My knowledge and experience will help us to be more efficient, and work more collaboratively with our members to grow the A/SP in the years to come.”

Says Steve Gallagher, body structures technical specialist at Ford Motor Co. and chairman of A/SP’s Joint Policy Council: “John has been an active member in the A/SP for many years and his working knowledge of the organization, as well as his deep understanding of the automotive industry made him the right candidate for the position. He has held leadership roles in several major automotive technology projects throughout his career and we look forward to John leading more advanced product and manufacturing technology projects as the partnership advances.”

The A/SP works to develop lightweight steel solutions to meet the current and future needs of automakers. For more, visit www.a-sp.org.
