Record Year for North American Robot Orders, Shipments

In 2016, the North American robotics market broke all-time records for orders and shipments, according to a report from the Robotic Industries Association (RIA). During the year, 34,606 robots valued at approximately $1.9 billion were ordered in North America, representing growth of 10 percent in units over 2015. The automotive industry experienced another strong year with orders growing 17 percent. Units shipped to North American customers also grew by 10 percent, with 30,875 robots valued at $1.8 billion shipped in 2016. Shipments into the automotive market grew 25 percent relative to 2015.

The fourth quarter of 2016 alone saw North American orders of 10,621 robots valued at $561 million, a growth rate of 18 percent in units ordered and 21 percent in revenue over the fourth quarter of 2015. Q4 shipments grew 33 percent on a unit basis with shipments of 8825 robots valued at $494 million.

LVD Strippit Opens Two More Customer-Support Centers

LVD Strippit, Akron, NY, has opened its Southeast Support Center located in Charlotte, NC, and its Southwest Support Center in Dallas, TX. The manufacturer of laser-cutting systems, punch presses, press brakes, guillotine shears and mid-level automation systems also operates support centers in the Midwest and Northeast United States. The Southeast Support Center provides technical service, support and training for customers in the South Atlantic and East South Central states while the Southwest Support Center services and supports customers in the Southwestern/Central United States, including California, Nevada, Colorado and New Mexico. It will also support customers in Mexico, providing technical support in Spanish.

The centers offer comprehensive service support, including spare parts, upgrades and retrofits, and commonly required components needed for emergency and scheduled repair and maintenance services will be stocked. Factory-trained service technicians provide response to onsite service requests as well as technical support by phone. The facilities also showcase a range of LVD Strippit sheetmetal fabrication equipment for customer-training and product-demonstration purposes.
