Talan Products Receives Regional Manufacturing Award

Monday, February 22, 2016
Talan Products, Cleveland, OH, has received a 2016 Evolution of Manufacturing award, presented by Smart Business magazine. The award recognizes the metal-stamping company and manufacturer of tooling and engineered parts as one of 11 regional leaders in manufacturing practices and innovation.
“We’ve invested in technology, and that has played a very important role in staying on top,” says Steve Peplin, Talan Products' chief executive officer. “But it’s really about our people. They’re the ones who are committed to delivering great customer service, and they’re the ones who are committed to safety every minute of the day. They’re the reason we’re poised to grow at a 20-30-percent clip over the next several years, and the reason we’ve gone more than 1500 days without a lost-time injury. Our people are the ‘why’ in why we’re receiving this honor.”

Falcon Steel Launches Material-Management Program

Tuesday, February 16, 2016
Falcon Steel, Fort Worth, TX, has debuted a material-management program designed to give customers greater flexibility and shorter lead times between order and delivery. A producer of steel structures for power-delivery systems, Falcon Steel reportedly is the only manufacturer and fabricator of extra-high-voltage lattice towers, steel poles and substation structures based in the United States.
The program allows customers to plan and order in advance for steel structures to be fabricated within a given forecast. Fabricated structures are then stored onsite within designated secure inventory-management areas and managed by Falcon until the customer schedules delivery.
According to Jim Taylor, CEO of Falcon Steel, the program makes it possible to deliver products within 3 to 4 weeks of a request, far shorter than the industry’s typical 16 to 20 weeks.
“By having the right product ready to go at the right time,” says Taylor, “our program gives utilities much more flexibility in their ability to forecast, order and replenish product inventory, Our customers not only gain more control during the delivery process itself, they can also improve profitability and reduce costs throughout the entire supply chain.”
