Bliss Presses are Back

Wednesday, November 30, 2016

A familiar name in the metalforming industry is back: For the first time in decades, a new press branded under the name of renowned U.S. manufacturer Bliss was presented by Schuler at FABTECH 2016 in Las Vegas. At the show, Schuler displayed a 250-mton Bliss press with state-of-the-art controls, specially designed for the North American market.

“The Bliss product portfolio will also include 400- and 630-ton straightside presses as well as 80- to 315-ton C-frame presses with one and two connections,” says Paul Nicholson, CEO of Schuler North America. “We have more than $10 million of parts in inventory and service centers all over the continent.”

The Bliss press showcased at FABTECH formed bottle openers as a giveaway for customers at the Schuler booth. The machine structure has been sourced in the Schuler Group and completely remanufactured at the BCN site in Hastings, MI. Available with both Allen-Bradley and Omron controls, Bliss presses are configured for the Internet of Things (IoT) with features such as condition monitoring and remote access/diagnostics.

Blanking Line for Alliance Steel

Tuesday, November 29, 2016

Red Bud Industries recently shipped a 0.375-in. by 72-in. blanking line with stretcher-leveling to Alliance Steel Corp., a steel service center located in Bedford Park, IL. The stretcher-leveler includes Red Bud’s SureGrip technology that allows various materials, such as hot-rolled, pickled-and-oiled or even coated, to be run without slippage or the need to change the gripper pads, according to company officials. The nonslip metallic grippers reportedly can be used for a year or longer without requiring replacement.

The unit also features Red Bud’s Quick Draw technology that enables cycle times of less than 8 sec. from the time the material is stopped for stretching to the time it starts moving again. This is as much as three times faster than other units on the market, claim Red Bud officials.

The new line handles coils to 90,000 lb. and consists of a coil stage and load system, uncoiler, heavy-gauge peeler/breaker, crop shear, dual roller-levelers, a roller inspection area, the sretcher-leveler, servo roll feed, variable rake shear, and a drop stacker with end-discharge rollouts.

Successful FABTECH 2016 Las Vegas Wraps

Monday, November 28, 2016

In mid-November, FABTECH 2016, North America’s largest collaboration of technology, equipment and knowledge in the metal forming, fabricating, welding and finishing industries, welcomed 1,500 exhibiting companies and 31,110 attendees from more than 120 countries to the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Exhibit space spanned more than 575,000 sq. ft., giving attendees the opportunity to see manufacturing’s latest innovations, interact one-on-one with key vendors and explore industry trends. Throughout the three-day event, attendees also had access to more than 100 education sessions and expert-led panel discussions. A variety of special programming was featured as well, including a keynote from boxing legend and entrepreneur Sugar Ray Leonard and an appearance from cast members of the reality TV show “Counting Cars.”

Hundreds of live product demonstrations showcasing manufacturing’s most cutting-edge equipment and technologies took place daily on the exhibit floor, allowing FABTECH exhibitors to present their current product offerings to targeted buyers.

Special-event and panel-discussion topics covered matters relevant to today’s manufacturers. They included additive manufacturing/3D printing, how to attract more women to manufacturing careers, improved product development strategies and how the 2016 presidential election results could impact manufacturing around the world.

FABTECH rotates annually between Las Vegas, Chicago and Atlanta. FABTECH Mexico also occurs annually and FABTECH Canada occurs biannually. These events are made possible by FABTECH’s five co-sponsors, including Precision Metalforming Association, American Welding Society, the Fabricators & Manufacturers Association International, SME and Chemical Coaters Association International.
