June 22-23, PMA Headquarters, Independence, OH; also Virtual

Led by Pete Ulintz, PMA technical director and author of the Tooling By Design column in MetalForming magazine, this is a two-day engineering and design-focused event developed for tool and die makers, die designers, tooling engineers and apprentices.

Attend to learn the importance of material properties and press-line capacity, and how they impact die design. An evaluation and ranking method for strip design will be proposed, and its effectiveness demonstrated. Ulintz also will review the advantages and disadvantages of common part-carrier designs; assess die-guiding methods to meet alignment needs; and review strip alignment, feeding and positioning methods. And, undertake an analysis of internal die thrusts and how to compensate for them in designing the die.

Also presented at this seminar: best practices for design and cutting clearances; bending theory and springback-compensation techniques; deep drawing principles; and pressure-pad design parameters and selection of a pressure system.

Cost for Designing, Building and Optimizing Progressive Dies (in-person or virtual) is $449 for PMA members and $649 for nonmembers, with special hotel rates available.
