January Manufacturing-Technology Orders Up YoY, but Down from December

U.S. manufacturing-technology orders totaled $357.3 million in January 2025, a 5.7% increase from January 2024 but a 29.8% decline from December, according to the U.S. Manufacturing Technology Orders Report published by AMT-The Association For Manufacturing Technology. Compared to an average January, the value of orders placed in January 2025 was 16.2% higher, making it the highest January since 2022. However, the number of units was 12.2% lower than the average January—the lowest level for any January since 2016.
Thus far in 2025, U.S. industrial production remains flat, with capacity utilization dipping modestly in January after increasing for the final two months of 2024, the report adds.
