In September 2010, Eckmann Custom Products, Racine, WI, a provider of stamped and deep-drawn metal parts and spin-form pulleys, added a 4400-W laser-cutting machine to its stable. The machine, a Bystronic BySprint Pro 3015 model, can cut aluminum to ½-in. thick and steel to ¾ in. Eckmann uses the machine for prototype development and for short-run production, to eliminate the need, in many cases, for blanking dies.
