Bilsing Automation Launches High-Speed Laser-Cladding Service

Bilsing Automation, Attendorn, Germany, has recently implemented the EHLA laser-cladding process (EHLA is a German acronym for high-speed laser material deposition), used to protect components from corrosion and wear. Compared to hard-chrome plating, thermal spraying and traditional laser-metal deposition, EHLA provides an economically feasible and environmentally friendly alternative for coating surfaces in less time. The technology already has shown reliability in producing coatings--with various material combinations—for brake discs in automotive applications, according to company officials. Developed by the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology and RWTH Aachen University, EHLA applies 25 to 250-micrometer layers at speeds to 500 m/min.

Bilsing has developed a mobile EHLA station by mounting the laser-beam source, an EHLA-processing head and powder-feed system onto a mobile robot. It’s offering the service at its facility in Bursa, Turkey.
