Lube Association Forms Alliance with OSHA

The Independent Lubricant Manufacturers Association (ILMA) has formed an alliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to forward ILMA’s Product Stewardship Program and promote worker health and safety. Under the alliance, ILMA and OSHA will develop training and education programs addressing safe and proper lubricant use and will provide ILMA members with information, guidance and access to training resources on working with lubricants in manufacturing environments. Leland-Gifford Acquires Reid Surface Grinders Line

Leland-Gifford, Inc., Akron, OH, a manufacturer of machine-tool equipment, has acquired the Reid line of surface grinders from Fayscott Co., Dexter, ME. The Reid surface grinders are available as hand- or hydraulic-feed models in sizes from 6 by 18 in. to 8 by 24 in.

North American Robot Orders Soar in 2003

North American manufacturing companies ordered 19 percent more robots from North American suppliers in 2003 than in 2002, according to the Robotic Industries Association (RIA). The total of 12,367 robots ordered, valued at $876.5 million, marks the industry’s best showing since 2000. Figures from 2003 show that 68 percent of North American robot orders went to automotive-related applications, with the majority of orders going for material-handling duties, followed by welding, coating, assembly and inspection.
