The board of directors of the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) has elected John Ferriola, chairman, president and CEO of Nucor Corp., to serve as chairman until May 2017.

“John is a dedicated and outspoken advocate for our industry, and has engaged his employees and the supply chain to speak out on behalf of steel with their elected officials, especially on the issue of unfair trade,” says Thomas J. Gibson, AISI president and CEO. “This is what AISI is all about—getting involved. It is this type of energy and commitment to advocacy that will help us affect needed policy changes in this challenging economic environment. John’s leadership is recognized worldwide, as he also will be chairing the World Steel Association next year. We are grateful to have him lead AISI for the next 12 months.”

AISI also announced new board members and leadership changes. Roger Newport, CEO of AK Steel, and Guillermo Vogel, vice chairman of Tenaris Tamsa, were elected as AISI vice chairmen and officers of AISI. Luis Landois Garza, vice president of sales and marketing at Altos Hornos de Mexico, S.A. was elected to the AISI board, as was Maximo Vedoya, CEO of Ternium Mexico.
