Synonymous with Quality

So says an article in the recent e-newsletter of the New Jersey Manufacturing Extension Program. An excerpt: “ISO certification and lean methodologies have almost become requirements for a company to successfully compete in certain global markets. Companies that have invested in themselves by becoming certified and implementing lean practices want to be certain that they do not have problems as a result of their suppliers’ practices or their own practices…Some do this before any problems occur while others do so as a result of manufacturing problems.” Cited as a model for manufacturers to benchmark is metalforming company HK Metalcraft, Lodi, NJ, whose continuous improvement process has included “adding QS9000 and ISO/TS 16949 certification, and lean manufacturing to its TQM toolbox,” says the article. “Recently, HK had shipped approximately 170 million pieces with zero defects over a 13-month period.” Read more here.
