Praxair, Cloos Team to Commercialize
Tandem Automated-Welding Process

Thursday, May 20, 2004

Praxair Distribution, Inc. has renewed an agreement with Cloos Robotic Welding Inc. for the commercialization of the high-capacity gas-metal-arc Tandem welding process for all automated welding applications, including robotic welding. The agreement involves the sale of Cloos equipment and consumables supporting applications where high speed and increased deposition rates are required. Compared to a conventional welding machine, the Tandem process uses two inline wires in a V-shape configuration. One behind the other, the wires feed simultaneously and melt in a double arc. This results in good seam quality with little spatter, and as much as three times the deposition rates and travel speeds of conventional systems, according to Praxair officials. Praxair Distribution along with its subsidiaries and distributors deliver an array of industrial and specialty gases, equipment and supplies, technical expertise and services to customers in North America. Cloos provides robotic-welding turnkey systems.
