Aro Metal Stamping, Inc., Roselle, IL, has received national certification as a Women’s Business Enterprise by the Women’s Business Development Center–Chicago, a regional certifying partner of the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council. The certification process included an in-depth review of the metal stampings and assemblies business as well as a site inspection. Though women comprise 47 percent of the U.S. workforce, they hold only 27 percent of manufacturing jobs. Aro Metal Stamping is an exception, as 50 percent of its workforce is female.

Erica Wiegel, president of Aro Metal Stamping, was invited to participate as a panelist in the first-ever Championing Women in Manufacturing event held on June 3 in Chicago. The purpose of this event was to connect women who work in the manufacturing field, in order to promote manufacturing as a viable career option and to promote a connected female manufacturing workforce.

At the event, Wiegel shared her advice for women in manufacturing: “Find a mentor, join groups, volunteer, ask questions and never be afraid to make mistakes.” She also offered insights earned during her career at ARO and formerly Wiegel Tool Works, saying, “In manufacturing, you must innovate to grow and you must grow to survive.”

Weiss-Aug, a manufacturer of precision metal stampings, has earned ISO 14001 registration, for implementing an environmental-management system in accordance with the ISO 14001 standards. That includes discovering areas for reduction in energy usage and other resource expenditures, reducing environmental liability and risk, and helping to maintain reliable compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements.

Kirin Manufacturing, Tucson, AZ, announced that it has received qualification as a certified aerospace supplier to the International Aerospace Quality Standard AS9100C. With the announcement, the company is now certified to offer precision sheetmetal-fabricated products to both civil and military aviation and aerospace markets.

This new standard builds on the ISO 9001:2008 standard with additional requirements necessary to respond to the unique regulatory, safety, quality and reliability requirements of the aviation and space sector.

“This international certification and the listing on the OASIS database for certified aerospace suppliers is a significant milestone for Kirin Manufacturing,” says Earl Williams, Kirin vice president of operations. “As part of the aerospace-industry supply chain, quality is critical and our products are now officially approved to reliably meet industry requirements.”

Kirin Manufacturing, a minority-owned, vertically integrated precision custom sheetmetal fabricator, specializes in quick-turn, high-mix, low- to medium-volume production.

Keco Coatings, Indianapolis, IN, has been certified to the ISO-9001-2015 International Quality Standard. The company, involved in coating applications and related technology, specializes in custom services such as research and development of prototypes, and distinct production categories, and is one of 26 DuPont Teflon-licensed industrial applicators in the United States.
