Additive Industries Nominated for Prestigious IAMA Award

Earlier this year, Additive Industries, based in The Netherlands, learned it had been nominated for the International Additive Manufacturing Award 2016 (IAMA). The firm’s MetalFab1 industrial 3D metal printer, together with its open-connectivity Additive World Platform, earned the recognition.

MetalFAB1 is reportedly the first integrated metal additive-manufacturing machine, combining the 3D print process (powder-bed fusion with multiple lasers) with stress-relief heattreatment to 1100 C, and automated build-plate handling and storage (for eight plates). Its net build envelope is 420 by 420 by 400 mm.

The IAMA, presented in February at METAV 2016 in Dusseldorf, is the result of a partnership between AMT—The American Association For Manufacturing Technology and the German Machine Tool Builders’ Association. The award honors fit-for-purpose innovations and solutions in the field of industrial 3D printing. Applications are rated in the following categories: degree of technological innovation; clearly discernible advantages for the industrial sector; the natural environment and society as a whole; cost-efficiency; and industrial-scale feasibility. Besides the IAMA trophy, the prize winner receives a $20,000 cash prize, and a media package worth $80,000 for marketing its prize-winning technology.
