Beginning in 2026, Mercedes-Benz Commits to Using More Carbon-Neutral-Produced Steel

thyssenkrupp Steel and Mercedes-Benz have signed a memorandum to expand their existing cooperation to include CO2-reduced steel. Per the agreement, beginning the second half of 2026 and onward, Mercedes-Benz plans to receive CO2-reduced products from thyssenkrupp Steel for integrating into its fleet of new passenger cars. During that timeframe, the steelmaker expects to have its new direct-reduction plant operational, a process that promises to significantly reduce CO2 emissions compared to conventional blast-furnace steel production.
