Dallas Industries Delivers Another Feed Line to Manitowoc Tool and Manufacturing

Dallas Industries, Troy, MI, has delivered a conventional coil-feed line to Manitowoc Tool and Manufacturing, the third Dallas line installed at the Wisconsin metal former in the last 2 yr. The new automated 60-in.-wide line features a model DRFH-860 servo feed, centering reel, alligator peeler/theader, coil restrictor, a model DPS-4-7-60 powered straightener, and a 30,000-lb. load capacity reel with load car. To enhance setup, the unit automatically adjusts feeder passline height, as well as the edge guides and coil guide rolls for centering the coil on the uncoiler. The settings for these axes store in each job recipe—a Dallas feature termed AutoSet.
The line is built on an Allen-Bradley, Ethernet-based control architecture and features Dallas’ SyncLoop and ProfileSelect technologies. SyncLoop control synchronizes feeder and straightener speeds to enhance loop stability and control; the ProfileSelect feed-control system uses a cam-motion (sinusoidal) profile that results in a feed motion using 100% of the press-feed window, reducing stress on the material and the feed’s mechanical components.
