Figs. 1-2: Using pilot parts such as the pump-impeller shown here and manufactured on the SLM 280 Selective Laser Melting Machine, the guideline is tested for practical application. |
The practical guideline, to be made available by June 2019, will provide a framework to ensure that metal parts produced via selective laser melting and wire-arc AM are according to oil, gas and maritime industry specifications.
"Our aim is to make the SLM technology better known in the industry and to increase its application through uniform standards," says Giulio Canegallo, director of business development energy at SLM.
In addition to SLM, participating companies include: Equinor, BP, Total, Kongsberg, OCAS, Ivaldi Group, TechnipFMC, Siemens, Voestalpine, Vallourec, Aidro, Additive Industries, Quintus, HIPtec and the Advanced Forming Research Centre of the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland.
