Stainless-Steel Fabricator Gives Rise to Brewhouses
Throughout New England

The Bangor Daily News takes readers on a tour of Tigpro, a stainless-steel fabrication shop in Portland, ME, that, since its inception in 2000 has made quite a claim to fame fabricating tanks, pipework and other equipment for the region’s dairy and food-processing industries, among others. But the real hook to the story is the success Tigpro has had, since 2009, supporting New England’s burgeoning craft-beer industry.

John Squadrito, Tigpro sales account manager, describes the design, fabrication and delivery process for the firm’s custom-fabricated brewhouses, and the accompanying photographs truly showcase its masterful skills.

Video Tutorial: Plasma Cutting Stainless Steel
From the American Welding Society comes this 15-min. presentation (by RoboVent Products Group) on safe, productive procedures for plasma-arc cutting of stainless steel.

“Address the sparks before anything else,” we hear, to ensure your fume-collection equipment functions at its best and that cutting productivity flourishes. Also explained in detail is the formula for calculating “generated particulate”—Kerf x Workpiece Thickness x Inches of Cut—and the related emission of fumes as a percent of the total amount of material removed by cutting.

The Quickening Pace of the Steel-Construction Market
Here’s an interview with John Cross, vice president of the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), where we learn of the relative health of the key markets in play—housing, commercial construction, non-building structures and bridges.

Also presented, in an in-depth industry survey published in Fabricating Product News, are several recent fabricating-technology introductions promising to make fabricators more productive and raise the quality bar. Included: a plate-processing center that drills, plasma-arc and oxyfuel cuts, scribes, mills and taps; automated beam-fabricating equipment; and portable inverter-based welding power supplies rugged enough to withstand job-site rigors.
