Coming to Detroit October 21-22: PMA's Automotive Parts Suppliers Conference
If you’ve never attended the iconic Automotive Parts Suppliers Conference (APSC), produced annually by the Precision Metalforming Association and now in its 28th year, then you’re cheating yourself and your business—that is, of course, if you’re in the automotive-parts business. Two days of educational sessions (October 20-21), networking and group discussions on the latest advancements, and perspectives from industry thought leaders on the future of the automotive industry make the conference an ideal forum for metal forming company CEOs, presidents, owners and other senior-level executives.

Pneumatic Conveyors Serving Two High-Production Presses
Scrap—unsightly, expensive and often time-consuming to remove —can limit productivity in stamping plants. Solutions often lie in carefully engineered material-handling systems designed to quickly move scrap to a central location and ultimately reduce the number of vehicles and employees needed to move smaller loads of scrap. That’s the case at the manufacturing plants of Morrison Products, a producer of air-handling components such as fans, blower wheels, impellers and propellers.

PMA September 2021 Business Conditions Report—Supply and Worker Shortages Prove Challenging
Metal forming companies expect business conditions during the next three months to continue to prove challenging, according to the September 2021 Precision Metalforming Association (PMA) Business Conditions Report. Prepared monthly, the report provides an economic indicator for manufacturing, sampling 114 metal forming companies in the United States and Canada.

PMA’s September report shows that only 26 percent of metal forming companies forecast an increase in economic activity in the next three months (decreasing from 29 percent in August and down 10 percent compared to July), 56 percent predict no change (compared to 57 percent last month) and 18 percent anticipate a decline in activity (increasing from 14 percent in August).

Sixty-one percent of respondents reported an increase in lead times, slightly down from 64 percent in August.

Weld-Immune Sensors from Pepperl+Fuchs
Weld-immune IP68 sensors are ideal for detection in welding or harsh environments. Air-coil systems and advanced electronics make them resistant to electromagnetic fields or influence from variable frequency drive control systems. The housing design ensures longevity and the brass casings are coated with PTFE, protecting against weld sparks and metal shavings.

Nominate Women of Excellence in Metal Forming and Fabricating 2021
In 2021, we are looking for women in leadership positions or on the shop floor, those who represent dedication to their company and the industry, and demonstrate excellence in meeting their workplace responsibilities.

Therefore, MetalForming magazine, in conjunction with the Women in Manufacturing Association (WiM), is seeking nominations for its 6th Annual Women of Excellence in Metal Forming and Fabricating Awards, to run as a special section in the December 2021 issue. The section will feature and honor those selected as a means to recognize and promote the importance of women in the metal forming and fabricating industries.

Nominees should be employed by a manufacturer of metal parts and components or a supplier to the industry. Winners from 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 are ineligible, but previous Honorable Mention recipients can be nominated. Fill out the form in detail ASAP as the nomination deadline is October 8. While we will accept more than one nomination from a company, a company may not have more than one winner.
