Ultrasonic Sensors Designed for Application Variety

Tuesday, July 16, 2019

The new UCC*-50GK-series ultrasonic sensor from Pepperl+Fuchs, intended for distance measurement in a variety of applications, uses ultrasonic pulses to measure the distance to the target and reports information through one of three sensor outputs. It can be integrated into an application without a PLC, with simple incorporation into an existing engineering environment via UART, LIN-Bus, or PWM, according to company officials. It also features a power-save mode and is optimized for battery operation, making it ideal for wireless communication requiring longer operation times.

A compact, threaded housing design allows mounting in confined containers, and the sensor’s pre-stored sound profiles enable users to choose an ideal beam width for restricted space. Three unique beam patterns and a sensing range to 4 m provide flexibility to adapt to any space constraint.

It features an IP66/67 rating, with a protective film preventing contaminants from adhering to the transducer, and a wide ambient-temperature range of -25 to 70 C with integrated temperature compensation adds to the sensor’s durability and ability to function indoors or outdoors.

The series is designed for an abundance of application scenarios, including as a collision-avoidance device for smaller automated guided vehicles and feeding robots.
