Tooling Tech Group's Expansion Accommodates 2750-ton Press

Monday, June 4, 2018

Tooling Tech Group has announced a 70,000-sq.-ft. expansion of its Majestic Industries' progressive die-and-stamping facility in Macomb, MI, to accommodate the installation of a 2750-ton Eagle press, while providing additional space for its die-assembly operations. The new equipment will expand Majestic’s capabilities into the transfer die business by providing die design, construction, try-out and production of larger components with more complex features.

“This is an exciting addition as there are very few die shops with a press this large,” says Tony Seger, Tooling Tech Group founder and CEO. The new Eagle press has a bed size of 280-in. (L to R) x 108-in. (F to B), a speed of 10 to 20 strokes/min., and a 36-in. stroke size. It can handle coils of aluminum or steel in widths up to 72-in., coil weight of 50,000-lb., and material to 0.4-mm thick. (0.157-in.), depending on width and tensile strength. The company also is investing in the ancillary press equipment, including a straightener, feeder, 50,000-lb. capacity coil mandrel for running progressive dies and a linear transfer system for running transfer tooling.

This will be the seventh stamping press in the facility, with the others ranging in capability from 500 to 1500 tons. All are equipped with tonnage monitors and sensors for pre-sample production runs. Construction of the press pit is currently underway with the press expected to be operational by September 2018.
