Clemson Announces Founding Director of Its Center for Advanced Manufacturing

Friday, June 22, 2018
As director of the Advanced Manufacturing Office in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, Mark Johnson oversaw a program to support research and development of new technologies, and for building private-sector partnerships to help ensure technologies get out of the lab and into manufacturing.

Today, as the newly named and founding director of the Center for Advanced Manufacturing at Clemson University in Clemson, SC, Johnson will call upon this experience to evolve the center as a “one-stop shop” for research and education programs in advanced manufacturing.

The creation of the Center for Advanced Manufacturing was announced last December with Johnson’s arrival in mid-May is kickstarting its activities. Work is underway to develop the center’s programs on topics such as robotics, virtual reality, artificial intelligence and lightweight materials.
