DAY THREE: Sprint to the Finish
That’s exactly how the last day of FABTECH 2018 kicks off, bright and early at 6:30 a.m., courtesy of the 5th RUN4MFG 5K. Participants show support for the future of manufacturing by running or walking a 3.1-mile route through Centennial Olympic Park across from the Georgia World Congress Center. Proceeds support the charitable foundations and/or programs of the show-partner organizations.

Today’s keynote, Make Way for Gen Z, beginning at 8:30 a.m., explores the coming workforce. Generation expert David Stillman teams up with his Generation Z son Jonah for a presentation that sheds light on what makes this newest generation tick.

At 10:30 a.m., a panel presentation tackles Manufacturing and the New Generation Workforce. Given that Millennials will make up the majority of the workforce in coming years, this lively discussion brings together experts to share a new perspective and help companies understand how to adapt and attract this new generation of employees. Topics covered include best practices in such areas as culture, communication, technology, teamwork and mentoring.

Thursday, November 8: 9 a.m.–4 p.m.

Be sure to stop by the booths of Precision Metalforming Association (PMA) and MetalForming magazine (A1833), and 3D Metal Printing magazine (B5635).

Conference Reports
Day Three of the Conference Program’s Stamping sessions provides a strong conclusion to FABTECH 2018’s educational offerings. Kicking off at 8 a.m. is a session on solving metal-formability problems, with PMA’s Peter Ulintz presenting, followed by a session on design of experiments in process simulation presented by James Miller and John Walters from Scientific Forming Technologies. Next are two sessions on transfer-system technologies: Balluff’s David Bird and Shawn Day address off-the-shelf sensing solutions for monitoring stamping processes, while Rodney Naseman of Wayne Trail details press-mounted transfer systems, from selection criteria to die and part design.

The morning’s second half begins at 10:30 a.m. with a session on best practices for achieving dimensional compliance with AutoForm Engineering’s Kidambi Kannan. Capping off the program is a session on creating apprenticeship programs for press room technicians, delivered by Tecknow’s George Keremedjiev.
