PPM Not the Measure it Once Was
This blog post by Michael Rapaport, president and CEO of IQS, Inc., explores the question:

Are PPM (parts per million) metrics still useful when evaluating automotive-industry suppliers?

Instead, perhaps a company’s use of enterprise quality management software provides customers with a better method of evaluating supplier quality. Rapaport opines that “PPM metrics do not tell the whole story when it comes to evaluating suppliers holistically…and viewing Six Sigma methodologies as infallible is a huge mistake.”

Here’s his post.

> The Short-Range Outlook for Global Steel Use
Earlier this month the World Steel Association (worldsteel) released its Short Range Outlook for 2014 and 2015. It forecasts a 2-percent increase in steel usage globally through 2014, following a 3.8-percnet increase in 2013, to be followed by 2-percent growth in 2015.

The falloff in 2014 is due, in part, to lower steel demand in emerging and developing economies, which is expected to moderate in 2015. Also noted: the impact of U.S. interest rates and growing geo-political tensions, which will impact energy prices.

Take a look at the worldsteel press release, which includes a link to view data by region.

Consistent Stock Lubrication Systems
Nordson EFD
Watch this in action. The Nordson EFD MicroCoat® system sprays lubricants in a fine, evenly distributed mist. The non-contact system uses Low-Volume, Low-Pressure (LVLP) technology to provide a consistent application that significantly reduces oil consumption when compared to other lubrication processes used in metal stamping.
