Operational-Effectiveness Survey
Addresses Outsourcing, Lean, Six Sigma

Tuesday, August 5, 2008

More than half (53 percent) of U.S.-based industrial manufacturers have either undertaken an outsourcing venture in a low-cost country in the past two years or plan to do so in the next 12 months, and 70 percent rate their outsourcing experiences as either successful (68 percent) or extremely successful, according to a recent PriceWaterhouseCoopers survey. The survey, addressing operational effectiveness and cost-reduction programs, also reveals that lean and Six Sigma programs don’t als deliver the expected results. While 73 percent of U.S. manufacturers actively deploy either lean (44 percent) or Six Sigma (39 percent), 47 percent of them report “mixed results” and only 49 percent are satisfied with the results from such programs.
