Siemens to Buy UGS Corp.

Thursday, February 8, 2007

Siemens is laying out $3.5 billion to buy UGS Corp., Plano, TX, a provider of product-lifecycle-management software. UGS activities will be assigned to the Siemens Automation and Drives Group (A&D). UGS and A&D began their business relationship in 2003 with joint projects addressing digital manufacturing technology. With the acquisition, A&D will become, according to Siemens officials, the first supplier for manufacturing industries to provide an end-to-end software and hardware portfolio encompassing the complete lifecycle of products and product facilities. Siemens did not provide a date for when the deal expected to close.
