Ford Spending Big Bucks in Southeast Michigan

Thursday, January 18, 2007

Ford Motor Co. announced last week its plans to invest $866 million to upgrade six of its southeast-Michigan plants. The investments in flexible manufacturing and advanced powertrain production aim to help Ford expand its small-car lineup, produce more fuel-efficient transmissions and bolster truck production. Part of the plan is to move forward a $151-million 20-yr. tax credit approved last August by the Michigan Economic Growth Corp. Ford’s announced investments include $130 million at its ne stamping and assembly plant; $89 million at its Woodhaven stamping plant; and $31 million at its Dearborn stamping plant.
