Corus Tubular Blank to Become
the First Hydroformed Crash Can in Europe

Friday, March 24, 2006

Netherlands-based steel company Corus has won the contract to supply the Metalbages plant of the Gestamp Group in Pamplona, Spain, with its Hyfo tubular blank. Metalbages will hydroform the blanks into crash cans, reportedly the first hydroformed crash cans to go into production in the European automotive market. While traditional crash cans are typically constructed of as many as eight components, the hydroformed can will comprise a single part cut in half to produce a vehicle pair. The result: reduced assembly complexity and a significant weight reduction. Learn more at www.corusautomotive.com.
