Thursday, September 8, 2005

Atlantic Tool & Die Company, Cleveland, OH, hosted the first public appearance of the all-new eighth-generation 2006 Honda Civic at its manufacturing complex on Sept. 7, providing a sneak preview of the Civic sedan and high-performance Civic Si coupe before they went on sale Sept. 15. Atlantic produces more than 50 stamped parts or component assemblies for the new models, including the sedan produced in Ohio at Honda of America Mfg.’s East Liberty Auto Plant. At the event, Larry Jutte, senior vice president of procurement at Honda of America, announced that Atlantic will be getting more Honda business in 2006 from two new products that Honda will produce in Ohio. Atlantic will supply parts for a new Acura SUV at Honda’s Marysville Auto Plant, as well as for the new Honda CR-V, which will begin production for the first time in the United States at the East Liberty Auto Plant. Atlantic employs 600 associates in five plants throughout the United States--three plants in Ohio, one in Texas and one in Alabama—and an engineering center in Costa Rica. Honda has 600 suppliers in North America, including 160 in Ohio. Last year, its purchases in North America totaled more than $14 billion.
