Volvo Invests in Stamping-Simulation Software

AutoForm Engineering, Zurich, Switzerland (Troy, MI) has sold licenses of its AutoForm-Sigma software to Volvo Car Corp. Volvo will use the software on a project for the front sidemember of its S40/V50 car. The main application, says Volvo, is to investigate the variability in material properties of the part and the effect on production yield. It already uses AutoForm software for early feasibility analysis and deep-drawing simulation. AutoForm-Sigma will allow its designers and engineers to apply statistical-process-control techniques and forming simulations together to account for variability in material characteristics, tool wear and other parameters, to create a more efficient and stable production process.
