GE Fanuc to Accept Newall Encoders

Thursday, August 12, 2004

GE Fanuc has entered into an agreement with Newall Electronics, Inc., Columbus, OH, whereby Newall will supply encoder technology for Fanuc-based automation, process and machine-tool products. The agreement allows Newall to implement its proprietary absolute-encoder serial interface in Fanuc systems. Newall encoders use precision inductive technology rather than conventional linear scales that employ optical technology as employed by competing companies. Advantages of the Newall encoders, according to company officials: no bearings, springs or internal moving parts, a totally sealed system, rapid position acquirement and high resistance to thermal drift.
