Tuesday, June 8, 2004

A recent seminar at Prima Laser Tools, Chicopee, MA, presented the latest company offerings in laser cutting and showcased Prima’s new 68,000-sq.-ft. facility. Prima officials demonstrated how lasers offer productivity advantages due to their reported ability to cut material in thicknesses to 1 in. cost effectively and at speeds surpassing traditional machining methods without lengthy setups. The seminar also addressed how laser technology can be used for rapid prototyping and fabricating of parts. Demonstrations featured the new six-axis Domino laser-cutting system with 2D and 3D cutting capabilities, which can cut flat and shaped parts, and also perform bevel cutting. Also demonstrated were the Platino 1530 2D laser system that features a small footprint and access from three sides, and the Cenit CNC-programming-software package designed for the company’s 3D systems.
