On Tuesday, March 23, metalformer E & E Metal Stamping Co., Plymouth, MI, will be recognized as the first automotive stamper in the nation to win the Star Award for excellence in occupational safety and health. The U.S. Department of Labor Assistant Secretary for Occupational and Health, John Henshaw, and other Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) delegates will present the award, which comes from the Michigan Voluntary Protection Programs. One condition for the award is a company having injury and illness incidence rates below industry average for 3 straight years. It covers five categories of a safety program: management’s commitment, employee involvement, a work-site analysis, hazard prevention and control, and training. E & E runs a 250,000-sq.-ft. plant and boasts annual sales of $60 million. It manufactures heavy-gauge fasteners, progressive metal stampings and value-added assemblies.
