Stainless-Steel Makers Face Weak Demand

Tuesday, August 5, 2003

According to Stainless Steel Review, a publication of MEPS Intl., Sheffield, UK, a sagging North American market for flat-rolled stainless steel coupled with added production capacity coming on stream has led to weak prices and poor profits among stainless-steel-producing companies. North American consumption of stainless steel is off 4-5 percent through the first half of the year, while European Union mills have increased output. MEPS Intl. monitors and reports on steel consumption and production trends. For more information, log on to www.meps.co.uk.
