Sharp Rise in First-Quarter Robot Orders

Wednesday, May 21, 2003

North American robotics suppliers reported 2003 first-quarter gains of 48 percent in robot orders, the industry’s best yearly start since 1999, according to the Robotic Industries Association (RIA). RIA reports that North American manufacturing companies ordered 3500 robots, valued at $219.5 million, during the first quarter, with another 132 robots, valued at $11.4 million, ordered by manufacturers outside North America. These order numbers, according to RIA, reflect strong gains in applications such as spot welding, assembly, coating/dispensing, material handling and material removal.
