Kent Corp. to Build New
Pipe-Mill Entry System for Sharon Tube

Friday, October 11, 2002

Described as the first big project for Sharon Tube (Sharon, PA) in some time, a new pipe mill is being prepared that will be capable of handling 6-5/8-in.-OD pipe by 0.440-in. wall, at line speeds to 250 ft./min. Kent Corp., North Royalton, OH, is building the entry line, which consists of a four-arm turnstile for 240,000-lb. coil storage, coil car with burr orientation, uncoiler with on-board coil retainer, and a peeler system to guide the strip into the flattener. The end welder will detect the tail end, locate at shear station, side guide, clamp and shear. The flattener then will feed the new coil lead end into the end welder shear area for welding.
