Otto Bihler Maschinenfabrik and Bihler of America Inc. have provided a Bihler 4 Slide-NC metal stamping and forming center to the Pennsylvania College of Technology, for a 2-yr. period. The $625,000 machine, installed at the college’s recently renovated 12,200-sq.-ft. automated manufacturing lab, features state-of-the-art servo controls and facilitates rapid production of intricately stamped and formed metal parts at speeds to 300 parts/min. Also contributing to the project: Chase Chillers, RapidAir, Rolled Metal Products, and Izzi Trucking and Rigging.
“This is an extraordinary opportunity to replicate what our graduates will be experiencing in the workforce,” says Howard W. Troup, assistant professor of automated manufacturing and machining.
Students seeking degrees in manufacturing, electronics, electrical technology and engineering design will use the Bihler 4 Slide-NC.
“The plan is to design and make tooling for a new product or modifications to an existing product every academic year. The machine will make it possible for students to take a product from conception to production,” Troup adds. “The design stage is underway in several manufacturing classes.”
