Auburn University Plans Two AM Centers

Auburn University will create two new research centers focused on 3D printing with its partners—NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center and ASTM International.

The National Center for Additive Manufacturing Excellence, which already has more than 40 industry and government collaborators, is being formed with the Marshall Space Flight Center and will be housed in the school’s College of Engineering, where it will develop new standards for the industry and conduct research into technology and workforce development.

In addition, it will be part of a new Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence. That's in collaboration with ASTM, a global organization that establishes industry technical standards, and EWI, an engineering and technology nonprofit.

Christopher Roberts, dean of Auburn's Ginn College of Engineering, says the school has made major investments in faculty, labs and equipment to "achieve a leadership position in additive manufacturing.”
