Kickhaefer Manufacturing Co. (KMC), Port Washington, WI, is celebrating 115 yr. in business in 2023. Started by Edward A. Kickhaefer in 1908 as a small metal stamping and die-making shop on Milwaukee’s south side, KMC remained in Milwaukee until 1964 when the need for additional space took it north to Grafton, WI, where it built a new 30,000-sq.-ft. plant. Continued growth brought KMC north again, this time to Port Washington, WI, it doubled its manufacturing capacity and now boasts more than 300 employees across four plants.

KMC specializes in engineered manufactured metal stampings and fabrications for multiple industries that include automotive, commercial, agricultural and construction equipment and on-highway trucking.

“Throughout the continued growth and expansion, KMC has remained true to its core values of quality and service.” says Gerry Schwarz, KMC president/CEO. “We have the manufacturing flexibility, quality, leadership and commitment to engage our OEM customers wherever they are in the development process or lifecycle of their product. When our management team took over in 2008, KMC had been a third-generation family-run company for 100 years with a strong commitment to employee success. We have continued that commitment through our employee development and training programs.”

Through the Main Street Capital College Fund, KMC offers employees and their children the opportunity to apply for continuing education scholarships. “Several of our employees’ families have been awarded these scholarships to help with their education expenses,” says Heidi Hellesen, KMC’s director of human resources. “We also support a number of local high school and college students through youth apprenticeship, summer work or internships and scholarships.”
