Grand Rapids Metalformer Earns Award for Workforce Development

Family-owned Wolverine Coil Spring, Grand Rapids, MI, a supplier of springs, stampings, wire forms, clips and assemblies, earned the 2009 ACT Employer of Excellence Award from ACT, Inc. ACT, Iowa City, IA, an independent nonprofit organization, provides assessment, research, information and program-management tools for employee education and workforce development. The company served as a pilot site for rolling out the National Career Readiness Certificate in Western Michigan.
The National Career Readiness Certificate verifies to employers anywhere in the United States that an individual has essential core employability skills in reading, math and in locating information.
Wolverine Coil Spring president Jay Dunwell formed a regional employer group to assist the project’s leadership, and championed the initiative by organizing career-awareness events and securing business support for the certificate.
