…according to the most recent data released by INEGI (Mexico’s statistics agency) and reported by Mexico News Daily. This jump, as compared to the first six months of 2022, reflects continued recovery from the pandemic in the Mexico light-vehicle production sector. INEGI data show production of 1.9 million light vehicles—76.5 percent were light trucks—in the first half of 2023.
Audi, Honda and BMW Group registered the strongest growth during this period, boasting increases in production of 152.4, 124.7 and 109.8 percent, respectively. Only four companies experienced a production decline: Mercedes-Benz, General Motors, KIA and Stellantis.
Specifically in June 2023, Mexico produced 331,707 light vehicles, an increase of 16.3 percent as compared to June 2022.
Mexico’s automotive industry, reports Mexico News Daily, contributes nearly 4 percent of Mexico’s GDP and 20.5 percent of its manufacturing GDP.
