Nikon Invests in Hybrid Manufacturing Technologies
September 23, 2022Comments
At IMTS 2022, Dr. Jason Jones, co-founder and CEO of Hybrid Manufacturing Technologies Global, Inc. (HMT) held a press conference to announce an investment in HMT by Nikon Corp., later confirmed by Nikon with the stated goal to leverage combined expertise to accelerate innovation in hybrid manufacturing. As a hybrid manufacturing—additive and subtractive manufacturing—pioneer, HMT has developed integration of CNC and deposition technologies. Via a tool change, HMT’s Ambit deposition heads enable switching from cutting to adding metal in a single machine. The Ambit heads are not limited to laser processes but also are compatible with various materials and deployment methods.
“This investment in HMT is the latest component of our Next Generation Project program to further industrialization of digital manufacturing,” says Yuichi Shibazaki, Nikon corporate vice president and general manager of the Next Generation Project Division. “As an industry leader with demonstrated collaborative capabilities, HMT and its Ambit portfolio are well-matched with Nikon technologies. We look forward to working with them as part of our commitment to creating value and advancing society through novel industries such as hybrid manufacturing.”
Nikon also recently announced its purchase of SLM Solutions.
