Mate Precision Tooling Anoka, MN, will make headlines at FABTECH with its new VariBend tool, being displayed performing 90-deg. bends on a CNC punch press. The VariBend flexible, mul- tipurpose tool bends sheetmetal tabs at any angle to 90 deg, adjustable in 1-deg. increments, eliminating time-consuming secondary operations usually performed on a press brake. With a maximum bend height of 0.70 in., the tool is well-suited for press- es with upforming capabilities and with stroke control.
Also on display: Mate’s Premia automated tool-sharpening system, featuring a touchscreen interface that simplifies tool setup and maintenance operations. The menu-driven machine includes three standard programs for small, medium and large tools, plus two customizable programs. Use it for all pop- ular tooling styles including thick turret, Trumpf style, Murata Wiedemann, Multi Tool, thin turret, XMT and Salvagnini.
Lastly, take a look at Mate’s UltraTec A and B punches now available in optional wear-resistant M4PM steel, for high-per- formance punching applications. Easy Handling of Long Loads

Combilift, Greensboro, NC, will introduce FABTECH attendees to its customized four-way forklifts, designed for safe and space- saving handling and storage of large and bulky loads. Alongside a model from Combilift’s original core C-Series lifts, the exhib- it will include a model from its GT/ST stand-on range. These feature a very narrow chassis for operation in narrow aisles, ideal for steel- and pipe-storage facilities.
Combilifts work as counterbalance, sideloader, and narrow- aisle forklifts and allow for the optimum use of all available stor- age space. Sideways travel with loads resting on the platform avoids the need for hazardous high-level transportation, sig- nificantly improving safety. Capacities range from 3300 to 180,000 lb., with a choice of diesel, LPG and AC electric power.
