Robotics Platform Geared Toward Education and
Workforce Development
Yaskawa Motoman, Day- ton, OH, has developed a STEM Robotics Platform that offers users a selection of pre-engineered robotic systems. The platform is designed to meet the specific require- ments of secondary educa- tional programs focused on advanced manufacturing and robotics. Educators can pur- chase a complete package, or individual components to build a custom training sys- tem. Potential end users
include community colleges, vocational schools and tech- nical colleges. Also offered, in conjunction with the plat- form, are customizable train- ing programs and a PC-based robot simulator that allows users to learn robot program- ming and operations in a vir- tual world.

West Coast Solutions Center is open for business. Located in Cypress, CA, the center also includes space for machine- tool integration and for cus- tomer education and training.
Schuler Supports Vocational Training in Mexico
Metalforming-equipment manufacturer Schuler Inc., Canton, MI, has opened a new vocational training cen- ter in Puebla, Mexico. The center, named Cedual (Cen- tro de Especializacion Dual), already has begun to train 30 apprentices, and has the capacity to support 90 indus- trial and tool/mechanical apprentices. Following the German apprenticeship model, courses include theo- retical and practical lessons taught by German instructors in an audio-visual lecture the- ater and in three classrooms. The center includes machines for hands-on training in drilling, turning, milling and grinding. After completing the
3-yr. course, students will receive a certificate from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, equivalent to the German qualification.
