Laser- and plasma-cutting systems, CNC punch press- es, hydraulic press brakes, guillotine shears and iron- workers—Turkish machine builder Ermaksan makes them all, and now the compa- ny has a new North American headquarters from which to showcase its machines. The company’s new 11,000-sq.- ft. facility in Elk Grove Vil- lage, IL, includes a dedicated sales/aftersales team, a technology showroom and spare-parts depot.
Laser Welding Aluminum Magazines for Military,
Commercial Rifles
Connecticut Spring & Stamping (CSS), Farmington, CT, a manufacturer of preci- sion parts for the firearms, defense, medical and aero- space industries, has devel- oped an aluminum magazine for use in military and com- mercial rifles that, according to the firm, is the first alu- minum magazine to be fabri- cated using laser welding. Compared to the more typi- cal resistance-welding process, laser welding improves weld strength, dura- bility and consistency.
New Laser-Mfg. Plants Slated for U.S. and China
Amada Co., Ltd., with manufacturing centers in Japan and France, announced plans to build manufacturing centers in China and in the United States. By April 2012, the company expects to com-
plete construction of a 180,000-sq.-ft. facility in Brea, CA, with capacity to manufacture laser-cutting systems at a rate of 250 machines/yr. The new facili- ty, southwest of Los Angeles, complements the firm’s exist- ing 104,000-sq.-ft. Amada America, Inc. headquarters facility in Buena Park, CA, which will undergo extensive renovation and serve as an advanced Los Angeles Tech- nical Center.

Indiana College Qualified to Train Motoman-Robot
Operators
The Ivy Tech Community College campus in Colum- bus, IN, has been named a Motoman Endorsed Robotics Instructor Training (Merit) Center. Through the Merit program, community colleges and universities can become an extension of the Motoman training department. Ivy Tech will deliver the company’s DX100 basic programming course, with possible expan- sion to include other courses and additional Ivy Tech cam- puses throughout Indiana.
